Space by: Julie Aida Graf

Julie Aida Graf (b.1991) is an abstract painter and textile artist based in Oslo. Working in the space between painting and textile, she creates colorful, playful, and sensuous abstractions. Through an ongoing exploration of techniques, shapes, and color palettes, she draws inspiration from the nature that surrounds her; from landscapes and topography to human organs and the organic forms we live among. The sea and the body’s inner structures are recurring references in her artistic practice.

Recently returned from an artist residency in Japan, Julie Aida Graf presents new works and sketches developed during the residency, in dialogue with selected works from her Oslo-based studio. The residency opened up new impulses and processes, with landscape, rhythm, and materiality at the core. 

Graf has previously exhibited at venues including Hos Arne, Kösk, and Kunsthall Oslo.
